Winter Hawks beat expansion Bruins 6 4

Frazer McLaren scored three goals to lead the Portland Winter Hawks to a 6-4 victory over the Chilliwack Bruins in Western Hockey League action on Sunday night.

Rob Klinkhammer, Matt Sokol and Colton Sceviour, into an empty net, also scored for Portland (4-7-0-0), which snapped a three-game losing skid despite playing its third game in as many nights. Sceviour also contributed three assists.

Mark Santorelli and Oscar Moller, with two each, replied for Chilliwack (2-11-1-0), which has lost 12 of its past 13 games.

Portland led 2-1 after two periods, but broke the game open in the third thanks to a pair of goals from McLaren and another from Sokol.

After Moller had tied the score 2-2 with a power-play goal 1:59 into the third period, McLaren responded at 3:15. The puck squirted to him at the side of the net and he banged it past Bruins goaltender Jim Watt.

Santorelli tied the game minutes later, but after Sokol had given Portland a 4-3 lead McLaren completed the hat trick with another goal from in close.

Moller and Sceviour traded goals to end the game.

Winter Hawks goalie Kurtis Mucha made 24 saves, while Watt finished with 25 saves.

Portland finished 3-11 on the power play, while Chilliwack was 2-9.
