One or more players from the Ontario Hockey League team Saginaw Spirit are currently under investigation for possible criminal charges.
Five players were suspended over the weekend by general manager and coach Bob Mancini because they ``violated team rules,'' but returned to practice on Monday.
"I acted on the information I had, and I will continue to act on whatever information I eventually get," Mancini told the Saginaw News. "Our players came back to practice today and, from what I was told (by assistant coaches), they were welcomed back by their teammates.''
Michigan state police say they are moving quickly to forward information to the Saginaw County prosecutor for possible charges stemming from a criminal complaint.
"We are hopeful our investigation will wrap up pretty quickly," said Assistant Post Commander Lt. Bonnie Kanicki Wilson. "It is very sensitive and involves a lot of people who need to be contacted. We had a detective working on it all weekend interviewing people."
The Spirit are scheduled to visit the Peterborough Petes Thursday night.
