Jared Boll scored a goal and picked up
an assist while Michal Neuvirth turned in a stellar performance in
goal as the Plymouth Whalers defeated the Mississauga IceDogs 4-2
Sunday afternoon, ending Mississauga's five-game unbeaten streak in
the Ontario Hockey League.
Boll's third goal of the season late in the second period proved
to be the winner as Mississauga's rookie defenceman, Alex
Pietrangelo, gave up the puck in the slot to the Plymouth right
winger.
Boll had three whacks at the puck beside the Mississauga net
before finally lifting it over IceDogs' goaltender Andrew Loverock
to put the Whalers ahead 3-2.
Boll also drew an assist when he set up John Armstrong, who
scored his second goal of the season midway through the second
period that put the Whalers (5-2-0-1) ahead 2-1.
Chris Terry and Evan Brophey had the other goals for the Whalers.
While Boll provided the Whalers with offence, Neuvirth kept
Plymouth in the game with several big saves among the 43 shots he
faced. The IceDogs had five odd-man rushes in the first period alone
but the netminder stood his ground and turned back Mississauga
(5-1-0-0) each time.
Loverock stopped 29 of 33 shots in the Mississauga net.
