Malkin to continue rehab program for shoulder

Rookie Evgeni Malkin will continue the rehabilitation program for his dislocated left shoulder and be re-evaluated in two weeks, the Pittsburgh Penguins said Friday.

The Russian forward was injured during a Sept. 20 pre-season game in Moncton, N.B., and has been working his way back since.

The Penguins have yet to pinpoint a probable return date for Malkin, considered the best player in the world not in the NHL last year.

Initial diagnosis said he could be out as long as six weeks, leaving him on the sidelines until early November, but Friday's news suggests he could be back sooner.
