Flyers waive Nedved, Baumgartner, Dimitrakos

The shakeup started with the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday in the wake of an embarrassing loss, the NHL club waiving veteran centre Petr Nedved, winger Niko Dimitrakos and defenceman Nolan Baumgartner.

If they clear waivers by noon ET Thursday, Nedved and Dimitrakos will be re-assigned to the AHL while Baumgartner will remain with the Flyers. Nedved had zero points and a minus-7 rating in six games but at US$2.35 million probably won't be claimed by another NHL team.

The Flyers called up winger Stefan Ruzicka, defenceman Alexandre Picard and winger Ben Eager from the AHL Phantoms.

Philadelphia is off to a 1-4-1 start, including a humiliating 9-1 loss at Buffalo on Tuesday night. The Flyers play the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.
