Dawes and Jagr both score to give Rangers 5 3 win over Bruins

Nigel Dawes scored a pair of goals and Jaromir Jagr scored a goal and added an assist Saturday as the New York Rangers took advantage of four power-play opportunities to beat the Boston Bruins 5-3 in a pre-season game.

It was the first time Jagr had played in back-to-back games since Games 3 and 4 of last season's playoffs against the New York Islanders. He had surgery May 8 to repair a dislocated left shoulder and saw his first action of the pre-season Friday against the Islanders.

Henrik Lundqvist made 31 saves, including 15 in the second period, as the Rangers closed the pre-season with a 5-2 record. The loss was the second straight for Boston to the Rangers. The Bruins finished pre-season with a 4-3 record.

New York took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period on a backhander by Peter Prucha. It broke an 0-for-42 scoreless streak on the power play for the Rangers. Brendan Shanahan boosted the New York lead to 2-0 with a one-timer from the slot on a two-man advantage.

Glenn Murray scored the Bruins' first goal at 13:30 of the second period, on a wrist shot, to cut the Rangers' lead to 2-1.

But New York answered with two goals 44 seconds apart to take a 4-1 lead heading into the third period. Jagr scored the first, on a power play. It was his first goal since April 13 against Pittsburgh. Dawes converted a Phil Kessel turnover into the Rangers' fourth goal late in the second period.

Dawes added his second goal of the game at 1:33 of the third period, also on a power play, as the Rangers upped their advantage to 5-1. Boston scored twice in the third period on a wrist shot by Brad Boyes at 7:08 and a rebound by Petr Tenkrat at 14:11.

Hannu Toivonen made 20 saves for Boston.
