Kings sign first round pick goalie Jonathan Bernier to multi year deal

Goalie Jonathan Bernier has signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Los Angeles Kings, the team announced Friday.

The Laval, Que., native was the Kings' first-round selection (11th overall) in this year's draft.

Financial terms of the agreement were not announced.

Bernier, 18, was the highest ranked North American goaltender in the 2006 draft and one of the Kings' two first-round draft choices, along with forward Trevor Lewis.

He has played in eight regular season games this season with the Lewiston Maineiacs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, going 4-3-1 with one shutout, a 2.73 goals-against average and a .881 save percentage.

Bernier, the younger brother of Canucks forward Marc Andre Bernier, was selected to the 2006 CHL Top Prospects Game in Ottawa and was a member of Team Canada for the 2006 Under-18 World Championships.
