Afinogenov, Giguere and Souray named NHL's players of the week

Buffalo Sabres winger Maxim Afinogenov, Anaheim goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Montreal Canadiens defenceman Sheldon Souray were named the NHL's three stars of the week Monday.

Starting this season, the league recognizes three players who delivered top performances each week.

Afinogenov was named the first star after leading all scorers last week with 10 points in three games. Heading into Monday's play, he led the NHL with 14 points.

Giguere was given the second star after backstopping the Ducks to three victories. He had a 1.30 goals-against average and .951 save percentage in those games.

Souray was the third star after scoring three goals and adding four assists in three games last week.
