Anaheim Ducks acquire tough guy Parros, deal Fedoruk, Chistov

Brian Burke doesn't like watching his team play without a heavyweight.

It prompted the Anaheim Ducks GM to acquire tough guy George Parros from Colorado on Monday to fill in for Todd Fedoruk, who has missed the past eight games with a broken cheekbone.

``It was clear to us that this was going to be a lengthy injury in terms of when he'll be able to come back and perform his job again,'' said Burke. ``I don't like playing without a heavyweight. I think everyone knows that.''

To make room, the Ducks dealt Fedoruk to the Philadelphia Flyers for a fourth-round draft pick in 2007 while also sending Stanislav Chistov to Boston in exchange for a third-round draft choice in either 2007 or 2008.

Parros only played two games for Colorado after being claimed on waivers from Los Angeles last month. Having played for the Kings last season, he is very familiar with the Ducks.

``If I had my choice to be traded anywhere I'd probably choose Anaheim,'' said Parros. ``So, I'm really excited to be headed there.''

The moves also cleared US$800,000 of payroll from Anaheim's books. They added Parros' $450,000 salary while losing Fedoruk's $450,000 and Chistov's $800,000.

Chistov returned from Russia this season to rejoin Anaheim and only got into one game. The 23-year-old was held scoreless in that game.

``He's an offensive player and he's had some success in the past,'' Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli told The Canadian Press. ``He's going to help our top three lines. We've had trouble scoring goals so far this season.''

Fedoruk returns to Philadelphia after three years in Anaheim. He played in the first 10 games for the Ducks and had three assists and 36 penalty minutes.

The 27-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent this summer and Burke didn't feel the team would be able re-sign him.

``I want to start by thanking Todd for a job well done for us,'' said Burke. ``Fridge was the first trade I made as GM of this team and he's a good man who did a very nice job for us.''
