Lorena Ochoa still doesn't have a major title, but it might not
be long before she has her own LPGA Tour event.
Alejandro Ochoa, her brother and agent, said the tour is getting
closer to signing off on an official tournament that would be held
in November 2008 at Guadalajara Country Club, the home course of the
25-year-old Mexican star.
Doug Brecht, the vice-president of rules and officials on the
LPGA Tour, did a scouting report on ...

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) _ Lorena Ochoa vanquished the playoff
demons. Now the world's No. 1 player is aiming for her first major
title.
Ochoa erased a three-shot deficit over the last two regulation
holes Sunday and then beat South Korean rookie In-Kyung Kim in a
playoff to capture the Wegmans LPGA for the second time in three
years.
The 25-year-old Mexican star closed with a 1-over-par 73 for an
8-under 280 total on the Locust Hill course and ...

CLIFTON, N.J. (AP) _ Lorena Ochoa only set her sights higher
after validating her status as the No. 1 player in women's golf by
winning for the first time since supplanting Annika Sorenstam.
The 25-year-old Mexican superstar now wants to win a major or
two, and soon.
Ochoa got back to the winner's circle and defended a title
Sunday, shooting a bogey-free 4-under 68 for a three-shot win over
front-running Sarah Lee in the $1.4 million Sybase ...

Paula Creamer walked to the 18th tee
knowing par would, at worst, get her into a playoff for the last
spot in the ADT Championship's final round and made birdie.
Creamer's four-foot putt on Saturday's last hole ensured she'd be
one of eight players competing for a record US$1 million first-prize
cheque at the LPGA Tour's season-ending event.
But Creamer said she didn't spend her day fixating on the chance
to play for the money.
``Today was more ...

Lorena Ochoa is trying to wrap up the LPGA Tour's player of the year award before she faces Annika Sorenstam and Karrie Webb again.
Ochoa leads the three-player points battle and can secure the title with a victory Sunday in the LPGA Tournament of Champions. The US$1 million tournament starts Thursday at Magnolia Grove's Crossings Course.
Sorenstam is playing in Greg Norman's Merrill Lynch Shootout this week, while Webb is ...

It might be time for Annika Sorenstam to stop looking ahead at Kathy Whitworth, and start looking over her shoulder at Lorena Ochoa.
The way Sorenstam had been rolling over opponents and piling up trophies, the 36-year-old Swede quickly was approaching Whitworth's 88 career victories. Sorenstam had averaged nearly nine wins a year since 2001 _ at that pace, she could have broken the record before her 40th birthday.
But ...

Lorena Ochoa took a huge step toward dethroning Annika Sorenstam as the LPGA Tour player of the year, overwhelming her Sunday with a 7-under 65 that turned a three-shot deficit into a two-shot victory in the Samsung world championship.
Ochoa was relentless at the start, a little lucky in the middle and solid down the stretch at Bighorn to win for the second straight week and fifth time this year, ...

Michelle Wie didn't exactly steal the show Thursday at the Samsung World Championship.
If anything, she held it up.
Starting her second year as a pro, Wie took a half-hour to play the 14th hole at Bighorn with two rulings, a whiff, an unplayable lie from a desert bush and a shot off the cement cart path just to get back to the fairway. She wound up with a quadruple-bogey ...

Mexican star Lorena Ochoa won her first
LPGA Tour title in her home country Sunday, closing with a 4-under
69 to hold off Julieta Granada and Paula Creamer in the Corona
Morelia Championship.
Ochoa, who never trailed after shooting a course-record 64 in the
second round Friday, won for the fourth time this season to tie
Karrie Webb for the tour lead. The 24-year-old Ochoa finished at
20-under 272 on the hilly, Jack Nicklaus-designed Tres Marias
course, five ...

Lorena Ochoa moved closer to her first
LPGA Tour victory in her homeland, shooting a 5-under 68 on Saturday
to maintain a three-stroke lead with one round left in the Corona
Morelia Championship.
The 24-year-old star from Guadalajara, seeking her fourth victory
of the season, had a 16-under 203 total. She stayed consistent,
hitting straight drives and safe approaches that kept her out of
trouble on the hilly Tres Marias course.
``I don't like to think about being ...

Though Carin Koch is back to defend her Corona Morelia Championship, all eyes will be on Mexico's Lorena Ochoa, who will try for a fourth time to win in her homeland.
Ochoa sits atop the LPGA Tour money list, more than US$100,000 ahead of second-place Karrie Webb, who won last month's Longs Drugs Challenge. A good showing here _ the tournament has a $1 million purse, with $150,000 going to ...
