Jay Haas birdies final four holes to take lead in Champions event

Jay Haas birdied the final four holes for a 9-under 63 _ matching his best round on the Champions Tour _ and a five-shot lead Saturday after two rounds in the Administaff Small Business Classic.

Haas, who started the round tied for the lead with Tom Purtzer and Dick Mast, pulled ahead for good with a birdie on No. 10 and finished the day at 16-under 128. Bruce Lietzke eagled the final hole for a 66 to join Purtzer (68) at 11 under.

Mast (69) was 10 under, and Jim Thorpe (66) was another stroke back.

Haas, a three-time winner this season, is second behind Loren Roberts on the money list and in the Charles Schwab points race. Roberts was 11 shots back after a 69.

Haas won consecutive tournaments earlier this year, the Legends of Golf and the FedEx Kinko's Classic, and also edged Brad Bryant in a playoff in the Senior PGA Championship. Haas also had four straight top-10 finishes entering the week.
