KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) _ World No. 1 Tiger Woods and Ernie Els will compete in Asian Tour events starting next month, organizers said Tuesday.
Woods, with 11 majors and 50 U.S. PGA Tour event wins under his belt, will headline the $5-million US HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China, in November, the Asian Tour said in a statement released from its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. The event is jointly sanctioned by the Asian, Australasian, European and Southern African Tours.
It will be Woods' second appearance in Shanghai. No other player details for Shanghai were immediately available.
South African Els, meanwhile, is the leading player at the $3-million Barclays Singapore Open early next month, the statement read.
It signals a return to Singapore for the Big Easy _ whose last appearance in the city-state in 2003 saw him blow a lead to China's Zhang Lianwei on the final few holes.
He is joined in Singapore by defending champion Adam Scott of Australia, U.S. Open winner Michael Campbell of New Zealand, former Masters champ American Fred Couples, England's Lee Westwood and Japan's Shingo Katayama.
The Asian Tour returns after a two-month summer hiatus with this weekend 12 events offering more than $10 million US in prize money. The Crowne Plaza Open in Sanya, China, opens the second half of the tour Thursday, followed by the Brunei Open next week.
