Canadian Tour set to stage inaugural Canada versus USA team match

The top 11 Canadian-born players on the Canadian Tour will have a chance to secure bragging rights in the inaugural Canada-USA team match slated for December in Jamaica.

The match will be the Tour's season-ending tournament and will take part Dec.13-16 on the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course at Rose Hall Resort in Montego Bay. It will be broadcast on The Golf Channel.

The Canadian team will consist of Calgary's Wes Heffernan, Darren Griff of Nanaimo, B.C., Edmonton's Stuart Anderson, Matt McQuillan of Kingston, Ont., Ottawa's Lee Curry,

Brad Fritsch, also of Ottawa, Dustin Risdon and Chris Baryla, both of Calgary. Adam Speirs of Edmonton, Adam Short of Vineland, Ont. and Rob McMillan of Winnipeg are the alternates.

The American squad will consist of Stephen Gangluff, Rob Oppenheim, Lee Williamson, Brian Guetz, Brock Mackenzie, Josh Habig, Mike Grob and Anthony Rodriguez with Wil Collins, Brendan Steele and John Mallinger serving as alternates.

Each team will have eight starters compete in four-ball, foursomes and singles matches in a format similar to the Ryder Cup.

``This event gives Canadian Tour players the unique opportunity to be part of a team representing their country,'' Canadian Tour commissioner Richard Janes said in a statement. ``Our best players will be able to showcase their skills not only in a match-play format but before a worldwide audience.''
