Bradley Dredge chipped in twice for a 4-under 67 at Carnoustie and took a three-stroke lead Friday after the second round of the Dunhill Links.
Dredge, who had a course-record 64 on the Old Course at St. Andrews on Thursday, chipped in for birdies at his first two holes and had three more birdies to offset his only bogey at No. 6.
First-round leader Paul Casey double-bogeyed the last hole on the Old Course for a 74 and dropped into a tie for 11th. Three courses are being used for this pro-am event, including the easier Kingsbarns, where Dredge will play on Saturday.
``I hit some really good shots at the start,'' Dredge said. ``Then I hit some iffy shots, but I scrambled well when I had to. Carnoustie is tough.''
Simon Dyson shot a 68 at Kingsbarns to share second place with Charl Schwartzel (67) and Johan Edfors (70), who played the Old Course. Padraig Harrington (69) and Vijay Singh (70) also played at St. Andrews and are tied for fifth with Scott Drummond and Mikko Ilonen, who had 69s at Carnoustie.
Ernie Els is tied for ninth after a 67 on the Old Course. Defending champion Colin Montgomerie, paired again with actor Michael Douglas, shot 67 on the Old Course to share 36th.
The 22-year-old Schwartzel had a brilliant round at St. Andrews.
``I didn't have a bogey or a five on my card,'' he said. ``I hit 17 greens yesterday and probably the same today.''
