Arnold Palmer hit two balls in the water on the fourth hole of a Champions Tour event Friday and then withdrew, complaining of a sore lower back.
The 77-year-old golf great was making only his second appearance on the tour this season and was playing in a threesome with Lee Trevino and John Mahaffey at the Administaff Small Business Classic. He remained with the group after withdrawing to entertain the gallery following him at Augusta Pines Golf Course.
Palmer hit his second shot on the par 4, 440-yard No. 4 hole into the water. He took a drop and again hit his next shot into the water before deciding to stop.
