Kicker Nate Kaeding signed a six-year contract on Monday that will keep him with the San Diego Chargers through 2012.
Kaeding's current deal expires at the end of the season. Without the new deal in place, Kaeding could have become a restricted free agent.
In his third season, Kaeding has made all six of his field-goal attempts and all seven of his PAT attempts for the Chargers (2-0), who were off Sunday.
He has kicked 13 straight field goals. Overall, he has made 47 of 55 field-goal attempts.
``It gives you the kind of security you look for, especially being here in this organization with these guys that I came in with,'' said Kaeding, a third-round draft pick in 2004.
As a rookie, Kaeding missed a 40-yard field-goal attempt in overtime that would have beaten the New York Jets in a home wild-card playoff game. The Jets won, 20-17.
