Jack Ferrante, a wide receiver on two Philadelphia Eagles championship teams in the 1940s, has died at 90. Ferrante died Thursday at a nursing home in Yardley, Pa., the team announced Friday. Nicknamed ``Blackjack,'' Ferrante had 169 receptions for 2,884 yards and 31 touchdowns in a nine-year career with the Eagles. He played for Philadelphia in 1941 and from 1944-50, and was a member of the Eagles' title-winning teams in ...

Donovan McNabb faces surgery, several months of gruelling rehabilitation and an uncertain future. Sound familiar? For the third time in five years, the five-time Pro Bowl quarterback has sustained a season-ending injury in mid-November. While the Philadelphia Eagles are left to chase the playoffs with either Jeff Garcia or A.J. Feeley leading an offence that was ranked first in the NFL through nine games, McNabb can only wonder if he'll ...

It was a brutal day for quarterbacks: Donovan McNabb is out for the season with a knee injury and Brett Favre injured a nerve in his right elbow that could jeopardize his league record for consecutive starts. They weren't the only banged-up players Sunday. Among others injured were New Orleans rookie receiver rookie Marques Colston (sprained ankle), Carolina running back DeShaun Foster (elbow) and Oakland running back Lamont Jordan, likely ...

Donovan McNabb stands at the line of scrimmage, barking out calls, signalling his receivers and pointing at defenders. Peyton Manning isn't the only quarterback who audibles. While Manning is a master at making last-second changes, McNabb is doing his best to impersonate the two-time NFL MVP. Since the Philadelphia Eagles began using the no-huddle offence, McNabb has been given the freedom to check off plays and call his own. ``I enjoy it,'' McNabb said. ``I think a lot of ...

Andy Reid should be tougher on his players publicly, because whatever he's saying behind closed doors isn't working anymore. Reid is maddeningly predictable when he speaks to reporters each time the Philadelphia Eagles lose: He always points the finger at himself. ``I've got to put them in a better position to make plays,'' is the common reply to most questions about his team's shortcomings. At last check, Reid isn't the ...

If Matt Bryant's idea of fun is lining up for the kick of his life, then he sure had a blast on Sunday. Bryant nailed a 62-yard field goal _ the third-longest in NFL history _ to give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers an improbable 23-21 last-second victory over Donovan McNabb and the Philadelphia Eagles. The kick ruined a gallant comeback engineered by McNabb after the Bucs built a 17-0 lead, ...

After a quiet five games, Joe Horn suddenly looked like the star player he was in 2004, with his shoulder-shaking end zone dances and game-changing catches. He wasn't the only one dancing. A packed crowd in the Louisiana Superdome watched the revamped New Orleans Saints pull out a legitimizing victory over one of most feared teams in the NFL. Kept out of the end zone until Sunday, Horn caught touchdown ...

The Philadelphia Eagles prepared for Reggie Bush by practising against Brian Westbrook. Just in time for Sunday's game against New Orleans, Westbrook took part in practices this week. The versatile running back hadn't been on the field much the past month except for games because of a lingering knee injury. Bush, the No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft, already has drawn comparisons to Westbrook because he's a multiple ...

Lito Sheppard is lightning-fast, elusive and has a knack for making big plays. Too bad he spends most of his time knocking down passes instead of running with the ball. Sheppard plays cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles, so his priority is shutting down receivers. He did his job so well in 2004 that he was an All-Pro and also went to the Pro Bowl after just his first full season ...

Donovan McNabb dismisses praise the same way he ignores criticism. A year ago, an injured McNabb struggled through the worst season of his career. He endured a bitter feud with Terrell Owens and played through a painful sports hernia before he finally succumbed to season-ending surgery. Happy and healthy now, McNabb is off to the best start in his eight seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. The five-time Pro Bowl quarterback ...

If this was next season, who knows what T.O. would have said about his quarterback. But it's his first season in Dallas, so Terrell Owens was far kinder to Drew Bledsoe after the QB cost the Cowboys a game Sunday than he ever was to Donovan McNabb. This was hailed as ``The Game of the Century'' in Philadelphia _ T.O.'s return to the city where he went from star to ...

Donovan McNabb was the difference. TO. was nothing more than a decoy. In his highly anticipated return to Philadelphia, Terrell Owens had just three catches and was outdone by the Eagles' young receivers _ and by McNabb. McNabb threw touchdown passes of 40 yards to Reggie Brown and 87 yards to Hank Baskett, and Lito Sheppard returned an interception 102 yards in the final minute to seal the Eagles' 38-24 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday in ...

T.O. could have used his warmup headphones for the game. Dallas wide receiver Terrell Owens made his first appearance at Lincoln Financial Field in nearly a year on Sunday, only this time as a target for vicious scorn and never-ending boos. Owens tossed the ball around near midfield and showed no emotion when the Eagles offence _ specifically quarterback Donovan McNabb _ was introduced to raucous cheers. The Eagles won the coin toss and took the ball, keeping ...

Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard plans to play Sunday, giving Philadelphia's banged-up secondary a lift against Terrell Owens and the Dallas Cowboys. Sheppard, an All-Pro selection two years ago, has missed three straight games since injuring his ankle during the first series of the season opener. ``I wouldn't put myself in an awkward position,'' Sheppard said after Friday's practice. ``If I wasn't ready, I wouldn't play.'' While Sheppard's return would bolster ...

Donovan McNabb looked like his old, scrambling self. Brett Favre looked, well, old. McNabb ran for two touchdowns and threw for a pair, leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a 31-9 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Monday night. Meanwhile, Favre, who has enjoyed many memorable moments on Monday night throughout his 16-year career, would like to forget this one. Favre misfired badly on several passes and was intercepted twice, ...
