New York Jets running back Cedric Houston was
downgraded Saturday from doubtful to out with a left knee injury and
did not accompany the team for its game at Jacksonville.
Houston was injured last Sunday against Indianapolis when he ran
the ball up the middle on third-and-goal from the Colts 2 with 5:18
left in the third quarter and was tackled by Dwight Freeney for no
gain. The second-year back got up after a few minutes, but was
assisted to the sideline by two trainers and didn't put any weight
on his left leg before he was carted into the locker room.
Coach Eric Mangini gave no details on the injury during the week,
but the Newark Star-Ledger reported that an MRI on Monday revealed a
hyperextension in the knee. It was uncertain how long Houston will
be sidelined.
Houston, inactive for the first two games, scored a touchdown two
weeks ago at Buffalo and had two 13-yard runs _ both season highs
for the Jets _ against Indianapolis.
Offensive lineman Trey Teague, sidelined since June with a broken
ankle, was also downgraded by the team to out after there appeared
to be a possibility he could make his season debut this weekend.
