Larry Johnson gave the Kansas City Chiefs quite a scare.
The Pro Bowl running back was injured on a facemask tackle at the end of a 78-yard pass play late in Kansas City's 23-20 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Johnson broke free down the left sideline after catching a short pass from Damon Huard. The Cardinals' Antrel Rolle grabbed Johnson by the facemask and the running back's head was twisted as he fell out of bounds at the Arizona eight-yard line. He lay motionless for a moment, but eventually got up and left the field under his own power.
Rolle was called for a personal foul on the play.
``All I remember is trying to get back on my feet and try to move around and see if everything was working,'' Johnson said. ``I wanted to be safe about it and see if there was really something wrong or not.''
Johnson planned to have an MRI on Monday.
Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald was hurt earlier in the game when he injured his right hamstring in the first half, shortly after catching a five-yard touchdown pass from Matt Leinart. Coach Dennis Green said the injury ``looked fairly serious.''
Fitzgerald said he would get an MRI on Monday.
``I've never had a hamstring injury or really an injury _ period,'' he said.
Detroit had at least five players injured in its game at Minnesota, including leading receiver Roy Williams.
On his team's first possession, Williams caught a first-down pass from Jon Kitna on a slant pattern near midfield and Minnesota safety Darren Sharper finished the play with a hard hit to the upper part of Williams' back. Williams writhed in pain briefly before walking off the field. He had his shoulder pads off on the sideline while a trainer worked on him.
Two snaps later, right guard Damien Woody hurt his left foot while pulling to his right on an outside running play by Kevin Jones. Woody walked gingerly off the field without assistance, and without his left shoe.
Running back Kevin Jones suffered a concussion late in the game after rushing for eight yards on 10 carries. Also injured were defensive lineman Shaun Cody (dislocated toe) and linebacker Paris Lenon (neck). Coach Rod Marinelli said all would be evaluated Monday.
Green Bay offensive lineman Jason Spitz was taken to the hospital for tests after he was kicked in the stomach and left the Packers' game against St. Louis in the third quarter. All of Spitz's tests came back normal and he returned to the stadium Sunday night, a Packers spokesman said.
Carolina rookie running back DeAngelo Williams left the Panthers' game against Cleveland after injuring his right ankle on a first-half carry.
Williams, a first-round draft pick, was hurt when he went down in a pile on a four-yard gain with about five minutes left in the second quarter. He had to be helped to the sideline while putting little weight on the leg, then was carted to the locker room after being examined behind the bench.
Jacksonville linebacker Mike Peterson, the team's leading tackler, strained a pectoral muscle early in the 41-0 victory against the New York Jets.
``I don't know how serious that is,'' coach Jack Del Rio said. ``I know it's serious enough that he couldn't return to the game. ... We're going to keep our fingers crossed and hope that's not a serious situation there.''
Miami wide receiver Marty Booker had his left arm in a sling after the Dolphins' loss at New England and said he had an injury in the shoulder and pectoral area.
``I don't know the severity of it,'' he said, adding he expected to have it checked Monday.
Indianapolis wide receiver Brandon Stokley left the Colts' win over Tennessee in the second half with a sprained left knee.
New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey left the game against Washington late with an undisclosed foot injury, while Redskins defensive end Phillip Daniels injured a shoulder.
Also injured Sunday were New Orleans safety Roman Harper (left knee) and San Francisco left tackle Jonas Jennings (sprained wrist).
Miami quarterback Daunte Culpepper missed the Dolphins' game at New England with a bruised throwing shoulder and was replaced as the starter by Joey Harrington.
Culpepper, who had been sacked 21 times in four games, was listed as the Dolphins' third quarterback. He missed part of Thursday's practice but participated in the full session Friday and had been listed as probable for the game. Coach Nick Saban said the shoulder injury is a cumulative effect of the sacks.
Among the other inactives Sunday:
_ Eagles wide receiver Donte' Stallworth (hamstring) and cornerback Rod Hood (heel).
_ Bears defensive linemen Adewale Ogunleye (hamstring injury), and tackle Ian Scott, who wasn't listed as having an injury.
_ Packers running back Ahman Green missed his second straight game with a sore hamstring.
_ Saints receiver Devery Henderson was inactive despite practising for several days this week. He also missed the Saints' previous game with a sore shoulder.
