Dallas Cowboys centre Andre Gurode won't seek criminal charges against Tennessee defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth for stomping on his head during a game.
Gurode's blurry vision is clearing but the lineman still has headaches from last week's game in which Dallas beat Tennessee 45-14, Gurode's agent, Kennard McGuire, said Thursday.
The centre has been talking with his family in the days since Haynesworth stepped on him with a cleated foot, the agent said. He added that a lawsuit remains a possibility.
``He's agonized and he's deliberated back and forth on this, and he has no desire to pursue any criminal charges at this time,'' McGuire said. ``But I think in going forward this young man just wants answers.''
Gurode was on the ground without a helmet and needed 30 stitches to close seven cuts. He may require plastic surgery to repair the damage to his face, the agent said.
The NFL gave Haynesworth a five-game suspension that is three games longer than the highest previous penalty for on-field behaviour.
Haynesworth, who scheduled an afternoon news conference about the suspension, spoke with Gurode on Tuesday and apologized but did not adequately explain why he kicked his opponent in the head.
``Albert is the only person that does have the answer to that question,'' McGuire said.
McGuire described Gurode as in disbelief that Haynesworth stepped on him after a play in which Julius Jones scored on a touchdown run.
``He still is the one that's looking in the mirror,'' McGuire said. ``He still is the person and individual that's looking at the replay of this going, `What on earth did I do to deserve this?'''
