Andre Gurode needs stitches after being kicked

Cowboys centre Andre Gurode needed stitches above his forehead and beneath his eye Sunday after being kicked twice by Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth.

The incident occurred after Dallas had taken a two-touchdown lead in the third quarter.

Gurode's helmet came off after the scoring play, a five-yard run by Julius Jones, and Haynesworth, standing over him, used his right foot to kick Gurode in the head.

Gurode said they hadn't been talking or having any exchanges that led to Haynesworth kicking him twice.

``In all my years of football, this has never happened to me,'' Gurode said. ``I've never been kicked in the face like this, and I've never seen anybody kick nobody else in the face.''

Haynesworth, who was ejected, expects to be disciplined.

``What I did out there was disgusting,'' Haynesworth said. ``It doesn't matter what the league does to me. The way I feel right now, you just can't describe it.''

The Cowboys won 45-14.

At St. Louis, Lions guard Frank Davis was taken off the field on a truck after he injured his neck on the opening kickoff of the second half against the Rams.

Davis was taken to a hospital, and coach Rod Marinelli said the injury did not appear serious.

``It appears everything is going to be fine with Frank,'' Marinelli said. ``All the X-rays and everything were negative right now.''

Davis was blocking on the return when he went down at about the Detroit 17.

He was down for several minutes, during which trainers unscrewed the face mask from his helmet. He was placed on a board, then lifted onto the back of a truck. Players from both teams stood on the field silently, some bending to one knee.

Jets running back Cedric Houston was carted from the field after injuring his left knee on a run in the third quarter against the Colts. Houston ran the ball up the middle on third-and-goal from the Colts two-yard line with 5:18 left in the quarter, but was tackled by Dwight Freeney for no gain. He remained on the ground, obviously in pain, and was attended by Jets trainers.

He got up after a few minutes, but was assisted to the sideline by two trainers and didn't put any weight on his left leg.

In Houston, Mike Brisiel, a rookie guard on the Texans practice squad, collapsed on the sideline during the first quarter against Miami. Team officials said Brisiel was ill, but his condition was not serious. He was not playing in the game. After about five minutes of being treated, Brisiel got onto a stretcher under his own power and was taken to the locker room.

Also, Miami defensive end Jason Taylor injured his ribs in the first quarter.

Falcons left guard Mike Wahle left in the second quarter with an illness and did not return in the game against the Cardinals. Centre Justin Hartwig missed his third straight game with a pulled groin.

Also, Saints special-teamer Curtis Deloatch suffered a right hamstring injury during a first-quarter punt and did not return.

Others injured included Colts tight end Ben Utecht (bruised back), Bills right guard Chris Villarrial (sprained ankle) and Vikings safety Darren Sharper (left quadriceps).

Among the inactives Sunday:

_ Colts K Adam Vinatieri missed his second straight game with a groin injury.

_ Bengals WR missed the game against the Patriots, the second time coach Marvin Lewis has disciplined him for an off-field problem. Henry was a passenger in a vehicle driven by LB Odell Thurman, who was arrested and charged with drunken driving and has been suspended for the season.

_ Chiefs LT Kyle Turley missed the game against the 49ers with a sore back. Turley, a former Pro Bowler with New Orleans, is attempting a comeback after a two-year absence following back surgery.

_ Vikings LB Ben Leber (sprained knee) sat out the loss to the Bills, who played without LB Takeo Spikes (right hamstring) for the third straight game.

_ Rams LT Orlando Pace, still feeling the effects of a concussion suffered in Week 2 in San Francisco, did not play against the Lions.
