Defensive tackle Darnell Dockett of the Arizona Cardinals signed a five-year contract extension Friday, the latest in a series of moves designed to keep the team's top young players.
The six-foot-four, 290-pound lineman would have been a restricted free agent after this year, his third NFL season.
A third-round draft pick out of Florida State in 2004, Dockett is the third of what the Cardinals consider their core group of young talent to sign extensions. The others are wide receiver Anquan Boldin and safety Adrian Wilson.
Dockett had a career-high 12 tackles at Seattle on Sept. 17. He has appeared in all 37 games, 36 as a starter, since joining the NFL. He leads Arizona defensive linemen with 21 tackles this season, 14 of them solos. He also has one sack and one fumble recovery.
