The Edmonton Eskimos missed the CFL playoffs this season for the first time in 35 years but that didn't stop the CFL team from giving head coach Danny Maciocia a promotion.
The Eskimos made Maciocia their director of football operations, essentially giving him control of all football-related matters with the CFL club. He will also retain the position of head coach, thus ending speculation Maciocia would be fired at season's end and ultimately return to his home town of Montreal and become head coach of the Alouettes.
The move comes after Rick LeLacheur was named the Eskimos chief operating officer and president last week following the retirement of Hugh Campbell.
Meanwhile, Paul Jones will assume the new position of director of player personnel, the team said Thursday.
Dan McKinnon will continue in his role as manager, football administration and Canadian scouting.
