The B.C. Lions have cemented top spot in the West Division but slotback Geroy Simon still has plenty to play for in the club's final two regular-season games.
Simon is the CFL's leading receiver with 97 catches and 1,736 yards, leaving him 301 yards short of breaking the single-season record of 2,036 yards held by former Calgary Stampeder Allen Pitts.
B.C. concludes its regular season with home games against Hamilton and Winnipeg.
At his current pace, Simon is averaging 108.5 receiving yards per game, which would leave him with 1,953 yards.
Simon shouldn't expect any favours from Hamilton even though the club has been eliminated from post-season contention and defensively is ranked last in total yards allowed (377 per game) and sixth against the pass (264 yards). Many Ticats are playing for next year, which should be more than enough incentive to come up big against Simon and Co.
Another factor, too, is Lions coach Wally Buono, who could limit his star slotback's playing time down the stretch to ensure he's healthy come playoff time.
Simon isn't the only CFL player on a record pace.
Calgary Stampeders kicker Sandro DeAngelis has made 54 field goals, leaving him within striking distance of the league record of 59 held by former Saskatchewan Roughrider Dave Ridgway.
