Sir Frank Worrell Oval in northern Trinidad has been selected to replace Brian Lara Stadium for next year's cricket World Cup, tournament organizers said Monday.
The Worrell Oval, located on the University of the West Indies campus, will host a four-match warmup series between Canada, Ireland, Pakistan and South Africa from March 5-9.
Inspectors determined last month that because of construction delays Brian Lara Stadium in southern Trinidad would not be ready in time for the World Cup, set for March 11-April 28 and being played in the Caribbean for the first time.
Matches will be played at 12 grounds in nine countries.
