KING CITY, Ont. (CP) _ Strong batting by captain John Davison and Ian Billcliff paced Canada on Sunday to 386 runs for seven wickets on the second day of the four-day match versus Bermuda in ICC Intercontinental Cup action.
The torrid batting, led by Davison's 165 runs and Billcliff's 126, enabled Canada to take a 52-run lead over Bermuda, which was all-out for 334 runs.
Davison's 165 runs is the highest for Canada in Intercontinental Cup play, surpassing the 139 scored by Zubin Surkari in the 2004 semifinal against United Arab Emirates.
``The day belonged 75 per cent to Canada and 25 per cent to us, when we came back with five wickets in the last session (of play)," said Bermuda coach Gus Logie.
Bermuda's innings ended quickly at the start of the day's play, with Canadian bowler Henry Osinde taking the final wicket.
Canada lost two wickets in the opening stages of its innings. Despite that, Billcliff combined with Davison to share a stand of 228 runs for the third wicket.
After Davison was out, Qaiser Ali partnered with Billcliff to add another 67 runs.
Canada then lost two more wickets near the close of play, including Billcliff, who made 126 runs.
The third day of play resumes Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. with Canada batting.
