Scott Harrison, in a Spanish jail, unable to defend title next month

WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison, jailed in Spain on an assault charge, will be unable to defend his title Dec. 9 against Nicky Cook.

Harrison was arrested for an alleged assault in Malaga, Spain, on Oct. 6 while training for the fight. The 29-year-old fighter has a history of depression and alcohol problems.

``The situation with Scott is obviously very disappointing,'' promoter Frank Warren said Wednesday. ``For the last month or so we've been advised that he would secure bail and be in a position to defend his title.''

Warren said it was unclear if the WBO would allow Harrison to keep his title.
