Joachim Alcine of Montreal, the top-ranked super-welterweight contender in the WBA, will face veteran Jose Rosa Gomez of the Dominican Republic in the feature bout of an Oct. 28 card at the Lac Leamy Casino in Gatineau, Que.
Gomez (54-19-5), who fights out of Argentina, is coming off a technical draw with Fredericton native Ian MacKillop on April 11 in Toronto.
Staying sharp is the goal for Alcine (27-0), who is waiting for the chance to challenge WBA 154-pound champion Jose Antonio Rivera of the United States.
Rivera is scheduled to defend his title Nov. 4 against American Travis Simms on a gala card at Chase Field in Phoenix that also has the IBF 154-pound champ Cory Spinks facing fellow American Rodney Jones and WBO heavyweight champ Sergei Liakhovich of Belarus fighting American Shannon Briggs.
Also on the Gatineau card is Cameroon native Herman Ngoudjo of Montreal, a super-lightweight ranked No. 3 by the WBC. His opponent has not been announced.
The card also features a super-middleweight bout between Nicholson Poulard of Montreal and Martin Desjardins of Gatineau.
Adonis Stevenson of Montreal, the Commonwealth Games silver medallist who won his pro debut with a one-punch knockout in only 22 seconds last month, will also be on the card along with Victor Lupo of Toronto and Phil Lo Greco of Montreal.
