Unbeaten super middleweights Jean
Paul Mendy of France and Anthony Hanshaw advanced to the final of an
IBO super middleweight tournament with convincing victories Friday.
Mendy (23-0, 12 KOs), who represented France in the 1996 and 2000
Olympics, won a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Henry
Buchanan (14-1, 11 KOs). Mendy swept all 10 rounds by throwing more
punches. Buchanan was also penalized one point for a low blow in the
eighth round.
Hanshaw (21-0, 14 KOs), a 2000 Olympics alternate for the United
States, stopped Lafarrell Bunting (16-2-1, 16 KOs) in the third
round. There were no knockdowns, but referee Jack Reiss stopped the
fight after Hanshaw hit Bunting with a right hand punch.
