Rookie Shawne Williams had a pair of baskets
and a blocked shot down the stretch Saturday night as the Indiana
Pacers rallied to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 98-91 in a
pre-season game.
Stephen Jackson scored 20 points and Danny Granger added 18 for
the Pacers.
With the game tied at 88, Williams scored twice to put the Pacers
ahead to stay. Indiana overcame a late six-point deficit and held
the Timberwolves to one basket in the final five minutes.
Williams finished with 11 points. James White and Al Harrington
each added 10 for the Pacers. Centre Jermaine O'Neal sat out for the
second time this week with a sore left hamstring.
Kevin Garnett led the Timberwolves with 17 points and Ricky
Davis, who played collegiately at Iowa, added 13, including a
crowd-pleasing dunk on an alley-oop in the first quarter. Garnett
was 6-for-9 from the field.
The Timberwolves trailed by 11 points early in the third quarter,
but went on a 20-3 run to take a 72-71 lead before relinquishing it
late in the fourth.
