Larry Hughes and Zydrunas Ilgauskas each
scored 14 points and Damon Jones added 12 to help the Cleveland
Cavaliers to a 91-82 pre-season victory over the Boston Celtics on
Friday night.
Sasha Pavlovic added 10 points for Cleveland (1-1), which never
trailed after taking the lead with 4:45 left in the second quarter.
Anderson Varejao had six points and 11 rebounds.
Wally Szczerbiak led the Celtics (1-2) with 21 points, 13 in the
first quarter. He finished 7-of-8 from the field with two
three-pointers and was 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
Sebastian Telfair added 16 points for Boston, including a perfect
10-of-10 at the free throw line. Ryan Gomes had 12 points and three
steals.
Celtics star Paul Pierce finished with two points, leaving the
game with seven minutes to play in the third quarter with a bruised
left hip.
The Cavaliers were without LeBron James, who was given the night
off by coach Mike Brown.
Keyed by Szczerbiak, the Celtics led 27-23 after one quarter, but
went cold in the second, managing just 10 points on 5-of-19
shooting.
Cleveland pulled even at 35 with 5:22 to go in the second quarter
on a layup by Donyell Marshall. Hughes followed with a foul shot and
three-pointer for a four-point lead and the Cavaliers didn't trail
the rest of the way, leading by as many as 16 points late in the
fourth quarter.
