Left-fielder Cliff Floyd wasn't in the New York Mets' starting lineup for Game 2 of the NL championship series Friday night after reinjuring his left Achilles tendon in the opener against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Floyd, who hobbled off after two innings of New York's 2-0 win Thursday, had an ultrasound test Friday.
``There was no further damage found,'' Mets manager Willie Randolph said. ``Just a matter of how comfortable he feels moving around on the leg.
``But right now we're going to use him as a pinch hitter and, hopefully, as the days go on, day to day, if you will, he'll feel better and better and we can get him back out there.''
Floyd caught fly balls in each of the first two innings Thursday. Then, in the bottom of the second, he hit a foul ball down the left-field line and ran hard, pulling up after rounding first base. He reached for his left foot, walking with a slight limp back toward the plate.
Floyd completed the at-bat, flying out, and was replaced by Endy Chavez when the third inning began. Floyd was bothered by the injury for much of the season and reinjured it hustling home on a double last Saturday as the Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers to complete a first-round sweep.
He hit .444 (4-for-9) in the first round with one homer and two runs-batted in.
``It's tough to see one of your teammates go down with injuries,'' Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado said. ``Hopefully, he can bounce back and help us on the road.''
