Josh Fogg pitched seven strong innings and the Colorado Rockies scored three runs in the sixth without a hit Friday to beat the Chicago Cubs 5-2 and deny Carlos Zambrano's bid for an NL-leading 17th win.
On a dreary day reflecting the Cubs' 95-loss season, Fogg (11-9) allowed two runs and five hits. He walked none and struck out four.
Zambrano (16-7) gave up only three hits _ all singles in the third inning _ walked four and struck out nine in seven innings. Only two of the four runs against him were earned.
Brian Fuentes pitched the ninth for his 30th save in 35 chances.
In the opener of what could be Dusty Baker's final homestand as manager of the Cubs, Colorado used an error, hit batsman, broken-bat infield out and three walks to break a 1-1 tie in the sixth.
After Zambrano walked Garrett Atkins and Matt Holliday with one out, Todd Helton hit a hard smash that Chicago first baseman John Mabry missed for an error, allowing a run to score and putting runners at second and third.
Brad Hawpe was walked intentionally to load the bases before Zambrano hit Troy Tulowitzki with a pitch and give the Rockies a two-run cushion. Chris Iannetta then hit an RBI roller to first and Colorado was up 4-1.
Chicago got a run back in the bottom half when Ryan Theriot tripled and scored when Aramis Ramirez grounded out. Theriot waited until third baseman Atkins threw to first and then broke for the plate, beating Helton's relay home.
Colorado made it 5-2 in the eighth off reliever Scott Eyre on another walk to Holliday and back-to-back singles by Helton and Hawpe.
Singles by Fogg, Kaz Matsui and Atkins put the Rockies up 1-0 in the third. The Cubs tied it on Theriot's single and an RBI double by Ramirez in the fourth.
